Capewell So we promised you a second part to this story and how Capewell links to the rescue. You already know about the hardware so why don’t we tell you a bit about the people.

B-1 Aircrew: Capt Packard is 2nd from the left

You may recall the names of the B-1 crew members: Frank Biancardi II, Michael, Chad Nishizuka and Brandon Packard. Well it turns out there’s a personal connection between Capt Brandon Packard and one of our Capewell employees. You can see Capt Packard in the photo 2nd from the left. He is one of the two Weapon Systems Officers who works the offensive and defensive systems of the aircraft. Notice they’re all wearing the survival harness with the Frost release!

Jared Burns

This is Jared Burns, he is a Business Development Manager for Capewell’s life support products.

Jared has been with the company for about a year and half and lives across the border in Massachusetts, although he did grow up here in Connecticut. He manages all parachute hardware to include the Frost parachute release. His job consists of writing quotes, attending trade shows, and acting as the main point of contact for the customer. Its not quite as exciting as his old job which he left in 2011 when he transitioned out of the US Air Force. Can you guess what Jared did in the Air Force?

Yep, that’s right. Jared was a Weapon Systems Officer in the B-1 for over 7 years! Jared and Brandon served together in the same squadron when they were stationed in Texas. They trained and deployed together and flew in Operation Enduring Freedom where they soon racked up over 1,000 combat hours!

Who would have thought that the very hardware that Jared supplies to the Air Force would be used to save the life of one of his close personal friends? We were shocked to say the least. Jared was so moved and thankful for the fortunate outcome that he gave a presentation to the entire company. He talked about his friend Brandon, his pregnant wife and the baby girl that is due any day now. We were reminded of the human aspect of the work we do here in the factory and why it is so important we do a good job.  We were all honored to have played a part in this happy ending.

Lastly, we would like to say one more THANK YOU to our soldiers, sailors and airmen who put themselves in harms way for our protection. We are proud to support our heroes in uniform and wish them a safe and speedy return home!
